Medical conditions can often be related to stress or other emotional issues.  If you reduce the stress and deal with any underlying emotional issue it may be possible to improve the symptoms. 

There are a wide variety of techniques that can be used for this.  For example, there are increasing amounts of data supporting the benefits of mindfulness and meditation on a number of medical conditions.  Hypnotherapy is now recommended by NICE as a treatment for IBS in certain circumstances.
